Mumbai Indians’ Lasith Malinga to Skip Initial Phase of IPL 2016?

Defending champions Mumbai Indians might be playing without their ace pacer Lasith Malinga, atleast in the initial phase of the Indian Premier League.

The Sri Lankan is yet to join the squad, which assembled at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium ahead of facing Rising Pune Supergiants in the tournament opener.

According to reports in media, even the Sri Lanka Cricket Board is not yet aware about Malinga’s IPL plans, which creating even more suspense over his availability.

The reports started that the pacer is likely to join the Mumbai India’s squad in the later part of the tournament, after recovering from an injury.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Indians’ management has also not asked for a replacement, giving indications that Malinga could join the team in the later phase.

The ninth season of the Indian Premier League is starting from April 9, with Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants playing the opening rubber.

The playoffs of the tournament will start from May 254 and end on May 27, while the final of the tournament will take place on May 29 at the Wankhede Stadium.
