MS Dhoni is back. The crowd at the MCA Stadium witnessed a mesmerising knock from Dhoni, who silenced his critics with a vintage, match-winning knock for Pune. He made an unbeaten 61 in a stunning fashion.
Dhoni, like he always do, took the game till the last ball, and sealed the game with a boundary. Pune needed 30 off the last two overs. And, the man unleashed himself to send purple cap holder Bhuvneshwar Kumar for 19 runs.
That over swung the match in Pune’s favour. The man from Ranchi showed that no target is big for him, and no run-rate is out of reach when he is batting. It won’t be wrong to say that the Dhoni of old has returned.
“It was a difficult one. But it was important that since we had strikers in the back of the innings,” Dhoni said. “it was important we take Rashid out of the game. And one side we can hit with the breeze.”
One side can always hit with it. You can’t always win games like this,” he added. “I think we did very well. Manoj contributed, which was very important because he didn’t eat too many deliveries.”
“There is no run-rate that is high. It boils down to how well the opposition bowlers execute,” he concluded. “So seven, eight, nine, ten, doesn’t matter. What matters is keeping your calmness.”
