MS Dhoni is concentrating on the Champions Trophy 2017, revealed his childhood coach Keshav Banerjee. His coach said that Dhoni is not thinking about 2019 ICC World Cup as it is too far away right now.

Banerjee played a vital role in shaping Dhoni’s career. He said that he still has plenty to offer to the Indian Cricket Team. Banerjee also pointed out how Dhoni is keeping himself fit for the upcoming tournament.

“At the moment, his sole focus is on the Champions Trophy,” Banerjee said. “If he’s successful there, he would go on till the World Cup 2019. It’s natural that with age, you would not hit the same strike rate.”

“But his will power and game-analysing sense are the two qualities that make him special,” he added. “He’s out there playing domestic one-dayers (Vijay Hazare Trophy) to keep himself in shape ahead of the Champions Trophy.”

Dhoni has surprised everyone with his career decisions lately. He retired from Test cricket in 2014 in the middle of the Test series against Australia. This year, he stepped down from the limited-overs captaincy in January.

“He never liked to be pushed so he called it quits before anyone could point fingers at him in the Test format,” Banerjee said. “He never kept anyone in the loop, even his best friend or parents did not know when he quit Tests.”
