MS Dhoni: One Player Leading The Team is Crucial

MS Dhoni has revealed that leaving the captaincy of the limited-overs side was in his mind right after making the Test retirement. He has recently left the captaincy of India’s limited-overs team.

Dhoni also pointed out that split captaincy doesn’t work in India, and he wanted Virat Kohli to ease into the job.

“I believe that one player leading the team is crucial,” Dhoni said in the presser. “It was on my mind when Virat took over the Test captaincy. I wanted him to take over and ease into the job.”

“I wanted to be around for some game. Now I finally decided that it was time to move on and give Virat captaincy.”

Dhoni’s experience will be vital for both Kohli and the Indian team in the matches to come. The Ranchi-born, who has two World Cups and a Champions Trophy to his kitty, insisted that he will be assisting Kohli on the field.

“Wicketkeeper is always the vice-captain of the side,” Dhoni said. “I will have to keep a close eye on what the skipper wants. I already had a chat with Virat on where he wants his fields.”
