India limited-overs skipper MS Dhoni has ended the rising speculations about his future as the Indian captain by saying that it is upto the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) to decided who will lead the team.
“It’s not that I don’t enjoy the game,” Dhoni said in the presser before leaving for Zimbabwe. “This decision will be taken by the BCCI , it’s not for me to decide.”
Dhoni will be leading a squad full of youngsters in Zimbabwe, as senior players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and others were rested for three one-dayers and three T20s.
Recently, former director of the Indian Cricket Team, Ravi Shastri, who has also applied for the post of Team India’s coach, has asked the Board to appoint Kohli the captain in all three formats.
“By no stretch of imagination you are taking anything away from Dhoni,” Shastri had said. “He can still contribute massively as a player. I think the time has come for Dhoni to enjoy himself and enjoy the game.”
Dhoni, meanwhile, has put the ball in BCCI’s court regarding the captaincy. It is now upto the Indian Board to decide who will be leading India in coming days.
