In terms of scoring runs consistently at the top of the order not many can come close to MS Dhoni. The most powerful player in world for more than a decade, who has a superb batting average at a mind boggling strike rate while batting up the order, always puts team before self.
Dhoni can easily bat up the order and, trust me, that is the easiest thing to do. The new ball is hard and you can also have the luxury of taking sometime before unleashing your strokes. Comparatively, batting in the middle-order is tougher.

There is hardly time to settle down and, at times, the match situation may demand to go for ambitious strokes. Still, Dhoni has always preferred to come down the order to finish off things, which is the toughest bit of the game.
By the virtue of being the Indian captain, if Dhoni wishes to bat up the order, can anyone stop him from doing so? For him, the top-order should click and if there is a need of his presence, he would never hesitate.
Sunday was one such occasion when Dhoni could have come down the order while chasing 286-run winning target. But he thought that it would be important for a senior batsman like him to give Virat Kohli some company after India lost two early wickets at a score of 41.

It turned out to be game changer. It was his 80 that eventually gave India all the momentum. Ultimately, it was Dhoni-Kohli show that enabled India to win then game in grand style by seven wickets.
Perhaps, Kohli alone couldn’t have managed to win the game all by himself without Dhoni’s crucial innings. To India’s delight, they both read the situation perfectly.
Now with 2-1 up in the series, India are indeed the favourites to win the five-match series from here on!
