New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the first toss of the tour and elected to bat first in Ranchi. The Blackcaps are in a must-win situation, and a loss today will ensure India win the ODI series, too.
It was an interesting decision from Williamson, seeing that the forecast of dew in the evening. Williamson hoped that the pitch will slow down towards the end and get difficult to bat while chasing.

Meanwhile, the Blackcaps made a couple of changes in their squad from the last game. Anton Devcich and Ish Sodhi replaced Luke Ronchi and Matt Henry. BJ Watling will do wicketkeeping duties for the Kiwis.
India, on the other hand, were forced to make one change in the squad. Dhawal Kulkarni replaced injured Jasprit Bumrah. The Indian captain MS Dhoni informed that his pacer wasn’t fully fit for the game.
“We were looking to bowl first. Dew is the reason. If there is any chances of dew, we would like to bowl,” Dhoni said. “The bowling has been fantastic, the wickets have been good to bat on.”
“If i’m batting at 4, it gives me an opportunity to pick when I want to hit, rather than the last 10 overs. Gives me time for myself,” he added. “One change, Bumrah is not 100% so Dhawal comes in for him.”
