The Indian cricket team is set to tour Zimbabwe for a short limited-overs series, featuring three one-dayers, and as many T20s, but whether the senior players will take part in the tour is still a mystery.

According to reports in the media, the selectors are likely to rest the senior members of the team, seeing the number of matches they have to play this season.

Only MS Dhoni is likely to get an exemption, and will be added to the team, as the Indian team will be playing only Test matches this year after this series.

The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) president Anurag Thakur asked to wait for the selectors’ call on the players that will be touring Zimbabwe in June.

He further added that it is upto the selectors to decide whether the senior players need rest, or the youngsters should be given a chance in the upcoming series.

“Let’s leave it to the selectors,” Thakur said. “Before any tour if a player wants to take rest, they convey to the BCCI and the selection committee takes a call.”

“If the selectors want to experiment with some new players they take the senior players into confidence,” he added. “There’s a set process in place.”
