Almost three months ago, Kedar Jadhav had failed to finish the game against New Zealand in Delhi. He threw away a golden chance of taking the team over the line, and also cementing his place in the middle-order.

However, against England, Jadhav had an opportunity to right the wrong, and he grabbed it with both hands. He smashed a swashbuckling hundred at his home ground to take India over the line in the series opener.

“It is a great feeling that I could win a game for my country,” Jadhav said. “That too at my home ground.  I could play this long because the captain Kohli has shown us how to chase big totals.”

“Have already missed many chances with the batting,” he added. “I have also missed chances to bat with Virat and watch him closely. It’s tough to run with Virat, but I will get better.”

Jadhav batted like a man possessed to slam his second ODI hundred. He did everything, right from running sharp singles with Kohli to taking calculative risks when England created pressure with dots.

When he arrived in the middle, India had lost Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni in quick succession. But, the Pune-born, who was playing just his 13th ODI, showed grit and maturity to anchored the innings with Captain Kohli.
