Kapil Dev: Indian Cricket Team Can Defend Champions Trophy

Former Indian captain Kapil Dev feels that the Indian team can defend the Champions Trophy. India are heading in the tournament as defending champions. They won the last edition in 2013 under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.

“It looks good the way India is playing for the past 5-7 years,” Kapil said. “And, It depends on how well they will apply themselves in the period. It is not easy to win any tournament. Do we have a team? We have.”

“Depends on how they maintain themselves in that couple of weeks and keep pressure on the opponents,” he added.

The former allrounder said that the Indian team has plenty of good players. He added that although captain Virat Kohli’s form is important, but there is enough firepower to take the team over the line.

“Even in Tests, people used to say if Virat does not score, India wouldn’t win,” Kapil pointed out. “Everybody is important, unfair to bring down other players. Does not matter if an individual is in form or not.”

The Indian team will play it’s opening game against archrivals Pakistan on June 4 at Edgbaston.
