Gujarat pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been named replacement of Mohammed Shami for the upcoming three-match T20 series, starting January 26, against Australia.
Shami sustained a hamstring injury ahead of the ODI series, and was replaced by Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the five one-dayers.
This is maiden India call for Bumrah, who had an impressive domestic spell, while also stamping his mark with the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.
“It is a wonderful feeling. I was expecting this since I was on standby,” Bumrah said. “But still, it is a very nice feeling. I cannot really describe it.”
“We have been playing matches non-stop and you don’t get the time to really sit and process all that is happening in your life. Maybe on the flight to Australia, when I have a lot of time on my hand, it will start to sink in.”
