India vs West Indies: Hosts to Field Three Spinners in Playing XI?

By: Sandipan Bose

Ravichandran Ashwin

On a relatively slower track, the Indian spin trio, Ravichandran Ashwin, Amit Mishra and Ravindra Jadeja, have made it count in the second warm-up match. So much so that the team management would be tempted to play three spinner in the opening Test against the West Indies.

From what it appears, a three-spinners line-up is something that could become India’s core strength. Like it happens at home or in the sub-continent conditions.

If Ashwin’s strength is to look for wickets all the time, Jadeja can restrict the scoring rate of the opposition quite easily. And, as far as Mishra is concerned, he is like a war veteran.

It’s also a good thing for these spinners that India’s head coach is a former spin stalwart Anil Kumble. And, he won’t hesitate picking three spinners if they are equally effective as the pacers.

Whether it’s the fast bowlers or the spinners, the main focus of the team is to take those twenty wickets as fast as possible. That fact that India have got success through spinners in last two practice games.

The think-tank won’t be thinking of playing more than two fast bowlers in the playing XI. The team management would also assess the playing conditions before committing on the XI.

Still, we do know what is cooking! The team will also consider the fact that scoring runs in the West Indies isn’t that easy. You need batsmen who need to be consistent to experiment with the team and bowling line-up.

How much India will go to accommodate three spinner is something we have to wait and see!
