India have started the Test series in an impressive way. They batted brilliantly, bowled with a lot of sting, and showed character like a champion. An innings win is what they exactly needed to kick-start their Caribbean tour.
The Virat Kohli’s men dominated the game, to say the least. They outplayed West Indies inside four days by an innings and 92 runs in Antigua to take the initiative in the series.
“If we have a chance to win 4-0, then why not,” Kohli said. “We don’t need to get complacent. If we end up getting a 2-0 lead, it’s not that we would be playing for a draw in the next two Tests.”
“As we know, if we learn to win Test matches, then we’ll learn how to win Tests everywhere,” he added. “We will learn how to play in different situations and we will know exactly what to do when a certain situation is going a certain way.”
The Indians had posted a mammoth 566 runs in the first innings. And, the bowlers ensured that they don’t have to bat again in the contest. The Windies were bowled out for 243 in the first innings, and then 231 in the second.
Ravichandran Ashwin was West Indies’ nemeses in the second innings. He ripped through their batting order, and finished with seven wickets. He was supported by the pacers from other end.
Earlier, in the first innings, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav wretched havoc and took four wickets each. They ensured a Windies follow-on, and India’s domination in the game.
