The pitch at the Green Park Stadium is a major talking point ahead of the 1st Test. It seems the spinners are going to make merry in Kanpur. The Indian spinners already seems to have an upper hand even before taking the field.
Even the Indian team coach Anil Kumble termed it a ‘typical Kanpur wicket’. He, however, stressed on the kind of cricket played, rather than on the type of wicket that is on offer.

“I feel it will be a typical Kanpur wicket,” Kumble said. “The pitch looks good, but I feel the talk should be about the cricket played on the pitch rather than the pitch itself.”
India’s recent record against the spinners is not much convincing, lately. Every now and then they have found themselves struggling against the spinning ball in the sub-continent conditions.

“In terms of our preparations, we have spent a lot of time focusing on preparing to play spinners and how to respond to playing spinners. And it will only improve, which you’ll notice as the series go by,” Kumble said.
“There will be spin on Indian pitches, but once the first ball is bowled on the day of the Test match. Everyone’s opinions will be formed,” the Indian coach said. “As the match progresses we will make our plans.”
