India’s opening pair has given a strong reply of England’s first innings total in Chennai. KL Rahul and Parthiv Patel stitched a 152-run stand, which is also India’s first 100-run opening wicket partnership in 31 innings.
The Indian team scored 113 runs in the morning session, and lost just one wicket in Patel (71). When lunch was taken on Day 3, the Indians were sitting comfortably at 173/1, with Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara in the middle.

Both spinners and pacers failed to trouble the Indians in the morning. Apart from a slight seam movement early in the session, there was nothing for them in the wicket. Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid also proved ineffective.
Rahul (89 not out) looked comfortable, so does Patel, who made his highest Test score. The Indians now have Rahul and Pujara (11 not out), who have added 21 runs for the second wicket so far.
