India vs England 1st T20: Curious Eyes to Navigate Senior Pro

Yuvraj Singh came out with flying colours in the ODIs. He played a key role in India’s series win over England. Now all eyes will now navigate to senior pro Ashish Nehra, when the hosts play the 1st T20 against India.

Seamer Nehra is the oldest member of the team and evidently still has enough zeal to compete at the highest level.

However, occasions such as these are rife with topics of deliberation. For instance, fingers are being pointed out at the presence of both Nehra and Yuvraj in the Indian T20 team.

While past experience of a player is crucial in deciding the fate of one’s entry in the team, the advantages of promising young Turks in the team cannot be neglected either.

However, history has always shown that experience has been given more weightage over budding talents. After all the risks, are many when dealing with new blood. So clearly, a lot depends on the selection committee.

When it comes to forming of the team and there, one thing is assured that only experienced heads are decisionmakers. Like any other sport, a mix of both is what ups the credibility and performance of the team.

While the T20 format initially was thought to be designed only for young guns, but the case has definitely not been so. With stalwarts being an integral part of the game. And this has only happened after many hits and misses.

Let’s go back in time and recollect. Rahul Dravid, reportedly, persuaded both Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar to stay away from the T20 format. He allowed MS Dhoni to lead India in the inaugural World T20 in South Africa.

Coming to Nehra, who is almost 38 years old and Yuvraj who is 35 plus. There is definitely hunger in them to hit it high. From what they have achieved on the field, they could have easily opted to retire from international cricket.

These big wigs claim of the green field claim the real fun is in keeping the Indian jersey on the shoulder. It’s not only a question of wearing the team jersey only. They want to continue playing and set bigger benchmarks.

It was only recently when Nehra was asked if he felt that MS Dhoni is good enough to play for India in the 2019 World Cup, and he replied, “If I can still dream of playing for India, I don’t see the reason why Dhoni can’t.”

“Dhoni is still one of the fittest cricketers in the world after all,” Nehra had said. So, let see what India would be getting from the senior most stars this time! Fingers crossed as usual!
