Team India

The Indian team registered its ninth win of the season, and probably the most satisfying. They came from behind to beat the Australians by 75 runs and level the four-match series 1-1 in Bengaluru today.

It required a complete team effort from the Indians at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. They showed resistance, applied themselves and eventually won the contest handsomely.

Right from KL Rahul to Ajinkya Rahane, everyone put their heads down and batted with determination. Rahul scored fifties in both innings, while Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara stitched a crucial partnership.

“They showed the intent and the belief that we can win from any position,” Virat Kohli said. “It was about taking responsibility. The way they showed heart and character, along with the crowd, is unbelievable.”

“The moment they did not score big in the second innings, we knew we had a chance,” he said. “We knew if we got anything over 150, we had a chance. After conceding the lead, Pujara and Rahane had a champion partnership.”

The bowlers also played their part in the first innings to restrict the visitors. Ravindra Jadeja and Umesh Yadav pulled India back into the contest. They didn’t allow Australia’s tail to wag in the first innings.

In the second innings, the Indian bowlers were again at it. Ravichandran Ashwin led from the front and finished with a six-for. He got good support in Umesh, Jadeja and Ishant from the other end.

“We would have liked anything over 200, we thought from 225 there was only one winner,” Kohli said. “The moment we got 187, we knew we needed in-out fields, we needed to finish it today.”
