After losing the 1st Test against Australia, a theory was floated that India losing the toss was also a factor besides poor batting performances. Not one, everyone in the team struggled to find their feet moving.

But since the Pune Test, a little seemed to changed as far as Australia are concerned. If the 1st Test belonged to Steven O’Keefe, the first innings of the Bangalore Test was Nathan Lyon and his eight wicket haul.

The fact that he is good and doesn’t get carried away by his teammates’ success was at display in the previous game. The Day 1  of the Bengaluru Test yet again showed why Lyon is one of the best in the business today.

As far as India’s batting is concerned, less said the better. It was almost a repeat of the Pune performances and thus losing crucial momentum. KL Rahul, however, got his act together to make a patient 90.

Otherwise, the rest of the Indian batsmen didn’t have the courage to hang in there. Cheteshwar Pujara had all the time in the world to wait. But he couldn’t find the right foot-work to handle Lyon.

Virat Kohli was flashy from the word go. He offered no stroke to a ball directed towards the stumps. As if he doesn’t know where his off-stump. Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane and Karun Nair literally gifted wickets to the Aussies.

The lower middle-order too couldn’t show a semblance of fight. All put together, it was a below par performance from India. After they opting to bat on a pitch that offered bounce to the likes of Mitchell Starc initially.

Later it became a good track to bat on. It was best displayed by Rahul. The local boy from Bangalore didn’t get the opportunity to be flamboyant throughout the innings, but he kept the Aussies guessing by playing the waiting game.
