Ajinkya Rahane had a game to forget against Australia in Pune. He failed to contribute with the bat. His failure with the bat increased pressure over him, as Karun Nair was warming the bench in the 1st Test.
The Indian team management, however, has lent its support to Rahane ahead of the 2nd Test match. India coach Anil Kumble insisted that the team cannot overlook what Rahane has done in the past couple of years.

“There is no question of dropping Rahane,” Kumble said. “He has scored really well, he has been extremely successful over the last couple of years. In terms of team composition we still haven’t discussed on that.”
Nair scored a triple century in the last time he took guard for the Indian team in Chennai. But the Karnataka batsman had to make way for Rahane, who came back after recovering from a fractured hand.

“Yes it’s unfortunate that Karun missed out after scoring the triple hundred,” Kumble insisted.
“But that’s the way the composition of the team has been,” he further added. “We have always looked to play five bowlers and it’s unfortunate that he came in as a replacement.”
