The mecca of Indian cricket, Eden Gardens is set to host India’s first day night match, starting June 17 to 20, Sourav Ganguly, the president of Cricket Association of Bengal, has informed.

Eden will be hosting the final of the Super League, which is a four-day domestic competition, and helps in identifying players for the Ranji Trophy.

“Pink-ball cricket indeed is the way forward,” Ganguly said. “Test cricket’s popularity has been steadily declining and we must do something to arrest the slide.”

“The pink-ball Test in Australia last year received an overwhelmingly positive response and we must embrace the change,” he added.

“The Super League final under lights is an experiment with an eye to hosting day-night Tests in the near future. I think it would be a very good experience.”

The game will be played with a pink Kookaburra ball, not with the SG Test ball, which is used in Test and other longer versions of the game.

In Australia’s Sheffield Shield the pink Kookaburra ball was tested, and later it was used in the Test match between Australia and New Zealand. The only problem with the pink ball that was identified was sighting it properly at night.
