After Sachin Tendulkar retired from all forms of the game, he was asked at a function in Mumbai to name those who would surpass or come close to his feat of 100th centuries in international cricket.

The little master didn’t waste time in naming two individuals – Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma – who would do so. Tendulkar had also indicated that records are meant to be broken.

Almost three years down the line, the pundits are saying that his prediction on Kohli could come true. From last eight years or so, Kohli has scored 40 international centuries.

If he continues to play like this, Kohli is certain to make 100th tons and can even surpass Tendulkar’s feat. On and average the Delhi batsman is making five centuries every year and as per the century-rate calculations.

His fans would have to wait perhaps less than ten years to see Tendulkar’s prediction coming true. In fact, if you talk to 100 former Test cricketers right now, at least 99 of them will agree to the fact that Kohli is going to achieve that record number of tons and will surely overtake Tendulkar.

The sentiment surrounding the Indian Test captain is so strong that even his one-time critics are his ardent followers. Batting wise, both Kohli and Tendulkar have contrasting style. But the pace at which he is going, Kohli is certain taking giant steps toward greatness.

Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Tendulkar and MS Dhoni are what we call the biggest Indian league of cricketers. In terms of achievements of these stalwarts, Kohli is nowhere in the picture.

But, what seems clear is that he gradually getting there. Four to five years down the line, he could be the fifth all-time best list of Indian cricketers, who knows!
