The problems doesn’t seem to be ending for Rising Pune Supergiants, as now they have lost another player to injury, this time their batting mainstay Steve Smith.

Smith, who is Pune’s leading run-scorer this season, has been forced to return to Australia owing to a wrist injury, which now has further depleted MS Dhoni’s squad.

The Supergiants have already lost Kevin Pietersen, Faf du Plessis and Mitchell Marsh to injuries this season, and losing Smith is a big blow to them.

Alex Kountouris, Australia’s sports science and sports medicine manager, informed about Smith’s injury, adding that the Australian captain was playing with pain so far in the Indian Premier League.

“Steve has been struggling with pain in his right wrist for the last week during his stint in the IPL,” Kountouris said. “We have been working with his IPL franchise Pune to monitor this.

“Unfortunately it has not resolved,” he added. “As such, he will return home from India for further assessment and treatment ahead of the tour of the West Indies.”

The Supergiants are yet to name Steve Smith’s replacement. They, now, will be anxiously waiting for Usman Khawaja to join them ahead of facing Delhi Daredevils.
