Bhuvneshwar Kumar was a vital cog in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s IPL success. He was equally potent with the both new and old balls, and ended up winning the ‘Purple Cap’ with 23 wickets. He, alongwith Mustafizur Rahman, formed a lethal pair and delivered some fine spells in the death overs.
After winning the IPL title, Bhuvneshwar credited the Sunrisers team mentor VVS Laxman for his success in the tournament. The seamer recalled that he didn’t start the tournament well, but eventually gained momentum.
Bhuvi, who led Sunrisers’ bowling attack pretty well in the absence of veteran seamer Ashish Nehra, said he worked on his yorkers and the slower balls to develop death bowling skills.
“I was not happy the way I started in the first two matches,” Bhuvneshwar said. “I credit VVS Laxman. He said, ‘you’re the one who will win matches’. I was mainly looking to develop the death bowling. At the same time, I worked on new-ball bowling.”
Bhuvneshwar delivered some fine bowling spells in the tournament, including the final. In the final, he bowled with a lot of precision against Royal Challengers Bangalore batsmen, who failed to get under his bowling.
