Indian cricket board (BCCI) on Friday extended support and showered praises on MS Dhoni and his men for the brand of cricket they played throughout the World Cup. In a statement issued after India lost to Australia in the semi-final match the board recognised “the stupendous efforts of the Indian cricket team in their attempt to regain the World Cup”.

BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya congratulated the team for displaying admirable spirit during the tournament. He also hailed the effort of the team to bring back the Cup from Australia.

“I congratulate the entire Indian cricket team for having played some outstanding cricket in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. They have indeed displayed some admirable skills while playing the game in its true spirit, and thereby, bringing joy to millions of cricket fans,” Dalmiya said in the release.

He then went on to say: “In spite of the disappointment due to the loss in the semi-final, the fact that the impending generation has showed the desired potential to take Indian cricket to greater heights is quite gratifying.”

BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur, who travelled all the way to Sydney to see the proceedings of the match, too expressed the same sentiment.

“Being present at the venue and having witnessed the match, I was privy to the excitement and joy that our Indian team brings to the spectators. I take this opportunity to thank all our fans across the world and especially those who were present for the semi-final and supported Team India. The BCCI truly appreciates the sustained efforts of our team and congratulates them for their outstanding performance while upholding the values which have long embodied the game of cricket,” Thakur added.

Dr Cricket was the first website to share the similar sentiment after India’s loss. India were not the best, but their performances were very good. It was so good that the entire generation of Indian cricketers will take lessons from the way this team under Dhoni fought the battle of nerves in Australia. The World Cup may get over for India, but there are quite a few good ones coming very soon. One of them is World T20 next year at home!
