BCCI Against Several Lodha Panel’s Suggestions

Reacting to the Lodha committee’s report on having three national selectors in place of the current five wise men, the Indian cricket board (BCCI) expressed strong reservation against the proposal.

“In a country, which is as big as India, it is next to impossible to track all the talent in the country with only three heads. The current system of five selectors is possibly the best mechanism,” a top BCCI official told Drcricket7.

Amongst other things, the board is also not happy with some of the medical reforms suggested by the committee. Sources also made it clear that some of the recommendations like asking the government to bring the BCCI under the RTI, allowing several former judges to be in the BCCI committees, one state cum one-vote formula, fixed terms of state associations, minister and government employees getting barred from contesting the BCCI elections, fixing the retirement age of an administrator, not allowing the BCCI officials to hold offices in state units, are a few of the issues, which the board wants to contest.

“The Lodha panel was supposed to have given us the suggestion how to run the cricket administration in a better way. But they recommended things which will keep the office bearers of the BCCI and its state units from working effectively,” the official said while adding that the battle is far from over!
