Azharuddin Backs MS Dhoni for Under-Bowling Ravichandran Ashwin

MS Dhoni’s decision of under-bowling Ravichandran Ashwin has created quite a stir, but the Rising Pune Supergiants captain has got the backing of former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin.

Azhar has backed Dhoni’s decision, saying that Ashwin has failed to produce the results with the ball owing to which he has lost his captain’s confidence in him.

Ashwin has just taken four wickets in this years IPL, while he has featured in all matches of the Supergiants. He has bowled 34 overs in the tournament.

“I think Dhoni is pretty right in that,” Azhar said. “Ashwin has to understand that he needs to produce results also, with due respect to him, he is a great bowler and performed really well earlier.”

“At the end of the day you need to give results and if you are doing well, the skipper will definitely be giving you more number of overs,” he added.

“Dhoni is someone who has always helped youngsters and has also let other people go ahead of him to bat,” he concluded. “So, if a player is not performing, the skipper is sure to lose confidence.”

The Supergiants are out of the tournament after losing eight out of the 11 matches. They are slated to face Kolkata Knight Riders in their next match.
