Australia vs India: Michael Clarke injures hamstring ‘could never play again’

Australia registered a thrilling victory over India in the Adelaide Test but they were not all smiles after the encounter as Michael Clarke is injured yet again. The seriousness of the injury is such that the Aussie skipper will not take part remaining matches and “could never play again”.

Clarke was injured on the fifth day, when he sprinted and bent down to stop the ball only to come up soring. Team physio Alex Kountouris provide medical assistance to Clarke on the ground and then took the limping skipper to hospital for further examination.

“They’ve certainly shown a tear there – the experts are looking at the moment,” Clarke said. “I can pretty confidently say that I won’t take part in this Test series unfortunately, and then I’ll wait on the experts’ advice and opinions on what I need to do to get back out on the park.”

“I’ll be guided by the experts and hopefully I get another opportunity to play throughout this summer,” he added. “I don’t know exactly how long I’m going to be out for – I think our first World Cup practice game is eight weeks away.”

Clarke was not fully-fit to compete in the first Tests against India, yet he opted to play and made an eye-pleasant century in the first innings. The 33-year-old insisted he wants to compete in the tri-series, featuring England and India, but added that there are chances he might never play again.

“I’d love to take part in the tri-Series, I’d love to take part in the World Cup, but I just have to wait and see,” Clarke said. “There’s a chance I could never play again – I hope that’s not the case and I’ll be doing everything in my power to get back out on the park, but I think I’ve got to be realistic as well.”
