The Indian cricket team is heading into the right direction to challenge for the World T20 championship, as they clinched the Asia Cup title in clinical fashion by beating Bangladesh in the final in Mirpur.

India registered an eight-wicket win over the hosts with seven balls to spare. This is Team India’s overall sixth Asia Cup title, and also the three successive T20 series win this year.

Bangladesh had set a competitive 121-run target, which the visitors chased down courtesy a flowing fifty from Shikhar Dhawan and anchoring knock from Virat Kohli.

Captain MS Dhoni provided the finishing touch and ended the game in his trademark style by hitting a six. Dhoni was in his element right from the start and played a brilliant cameo.

Indian bowlers also displayed a good performance and managed to restrict Bangladesh to a total that the batsmen chased down pretty easily.

Earlier, when everyone was hoping to see some entertaining cricket, an unprecedented thunder shower hit the Shere Bangla National Stadium to play spoilsport in the Asia Cup T20 final.

The downpour was so heavy that it took moments to create massive puddles in the outfield. It wasn’t all, as heavy winds also damaged the massive sight screen.

As a precaution the floodlights had to be switched off, fans rushed to take cover and the drainage facility of the stadium was tested to the limit.

But, thanks to an superb work by the groundsmen, and incredible drainage facility of the Shere Bangla National Stadium, it turned out to be a 15-over-a-side match.
